Merry Christmas, Roses! We're now on a roll for the fourth season of this spectacular show. It's crazy to think we got here this quickly, but I'm not complaining. What more can the Roses get into? (The answer: a lot.) Season four has made the Roses finally feeling at home in Schitt's Creek. Johnny now co-owns the motel with Stevie as business partners. However, he struggles with keeping his professional and personal life separate. Moira still carries her Town Council position and involvement with the Jazzagals with dramatic flair. She is determined to use her talents to the fullest potential in everything she does. David is busy successfully running Rose Apothecary and finding romance in the process. But his past dating history and struggling to find alone time is causing problems in this new relationship before it can take off. Alexis has graduated high school and looking to put her new confidence to the test. She takes initiative by rebranding the motel and creating a Singles Week with a lot of matchmaking activities. That's before Alexis tries to deal with the fact she still has feelings for her ex-fiancé, Ted, while he is dating someone else. The Roses will find themselves trying to capture the spirit of their town, even into the Christmas season. I feel like a broken record by now, but this show really keeps getting better. We have now officially moved into a space where the Roses are accepting Schitt's Creek as their home. (They tolerate it, but hey, that's progress!) I wasn't sure what this season would bring with that new dynamic, but it literally did not disappoint. We shouldn't be surprised – yes, the Roses are still in Schitt's Creek. Their initiative to integrate into the town from season three has been met with great success. While Moira still dreams out loud of the day they leave, they are acting like real Schitt's Creekians now. (Or is it Schittonians? Did we ever decide on that?) Everyone has found their calling, or the equivalent, in this quirky small town. As per usual, the Roses are still resilient and living through their everyday life. They now own businesses or doing their passion projects with vigor. It seems like they are willing to do whatever it takes to make their lives more enjoyable. They still complain and miss their old life in almost every episode, but they have now adapted to their new lives. This change brought this positive vibe in the Roses that I loved so much. Don't worry though, they still complain about most things, but they're the Roses after all. I still love them in all their complexity. Like last season, the best part of this latest one was watching how the Roses grew by the end. I don't know why I am surprised by the amount of growth each character goes through, but I was. Once again, it almost outshines everything else we watch. I loved that Johnny has finally found his peace and his groove with getting back into business practices. Moira still struggles, but she... manages the best she can. (It's through wigs and crazy accents in case you wanted to know) David is literally running a whole business now. Yes, the guy who didn't know what tax write-offs were is now a whole business owner. It's crazy to see, but it's all there., Alexis is also willing to go the extra mile to be her own woman. Her journey with Ted made me feel so seen. Who among us has not thirsted after a guy who was dating someone else? I enjoyed that the Roses finally have nuance to them. They seem closer than when they arrived, but they all are still magnets for trouble. I think we have to address Patrick and David. This show approached their relationship with nuance and care. They were like most couples and had their struggles. But there was no struggle because they were gay. If anything, that just seemed like an aspect of everything else. No one bat an eye, no one made jokes, no one caused them trouble. They just were together and fell in love. I was charmed by their development and story. LGBTQ+ romance stories very rarely get this treatment. I hope they become the blueprint for the future. Where can we go from here? I never dreamed of the day the Roses would finally accept Schitt's Creek as their present and future. I look forward to seeing how everything develops from here. The bonus is it is going to keep being TV perfection.
Someone please serenade me with "The Best" by Tina Turner, I beg of you!
