Friend, Will Robinson. Is this a safe space where I can say that I'm kinda attracted to a robot? No? Okay, I guess I'm alone in this... Lost in Space is the latest Hollywood idea to do its take on a modern reboot of its original series run back in 1965. Many don't do its reboots justice, but this one absolutely did. For those not familiar with the first Lost in Space, don't worry because the new version stays true to the original series with some updates. The series, set in the year 2044, follows the Robinson family looking to join their fellow space colonizers on a journey to their new home planet after the hope for humanity's survival becomes too bleak for Earth. Before the Robinsons can reach Alpha Centauri, they get thrown off course and crash on a nearby hospitable planet. It forces the family to face its glaring problems, try to survive in a new environment, and deal with their newest addition, a robot who could kill them at any moment. I have a strange love-hate relationship with the sci-fi genre, but this series came highly recommended by my friend Lauren. I cannot begin to tell you how many texts I sent her with so many thanks to this recommendation because it's a lot. I am really obsessed with this show because it literally has everything. First off, it's set in space, and they commit to that aspect with amazing CGI work so, I already love that. Next, this family is just dripping with drama. The writers were very clever by dropping little nuggets as the season progresses because otherwise, it would be too much. (Just to name a few if you're curious... the parents are separated but don't explain right away why. Each of the three Robinson kids has some sort of issue with at least ONE (1) parent. Also, if we're getting technical - one Robinson shouldn't have even been there on the way to Alpha Centauri due to failing their placement exam, but I digress.) Finally, some of the greatest moments aren't even from the Robinson family. The robot and a runaway criminal drive the plot AND force the Robinsons to work together. It makes this messy sundae of chaos even better with a cute dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top. It's weird to say watching a family struggle so much with something as basic as communication is enjoyable, but it is. The Robinsons are an example that not every family is perfect - even if you're stranded on a random planet in the Middle of Nowhere, Space.
Space tip: having a lucky chicken makes or breaks your space travel/survival a big difference. Trust me.
