*gasps in Spanish again* I honestly wondered where Elite would go after how wild season 1 was, but wow. We're back and even better than ever, ladies. Season 2 of Elite follows the aftermath of Marina's death. Grief has yet to be healed when another student Samuel goes missing. Dedicated to showing the moments leading up to his disappearance, no one knows who is involved or what led up to Samuel going missing. This causes even higher tensions at Las Encinas. New students can't even escape from scrutiny. Loyalties are tested as it's a debate of who can be trusted and how long can dark secrets be kept hidden. Will we finally know who killed Marina? The fact this season started with a future disappearance made me question if I would ever know peace with this show. (Answer: no, I will not) Right away, we know the students are not okay at Las Encinas. Gúzman turned to parties and drugs, while Christian knew what really happened in those final moments of Marina's life, but hasn't said anything. That's just the beginning of this messy debacle we know as grief. Watching these teens grapple with death, but also the idea that someone among them is a murderer, felt wild to watch sometimes. It added another complexity to all of them - I couldn't imagine trying to piece together how someone I knew was murdered and by someone I know at that. Once again, the second season went for substance over style in terms of plots. Compared to last time, Samuel decided to play investigator and not wait for the local police to do anything. His motivation to find out what happened to Marina leads him to make some... interesting choices. You find that this season that Samuel is not the sad, lovesick boy mourning for his ex-girlfriend, he's ready for vengeance. Samuel was a constant point of frustration for me this season because it seemed like he didn't care who he hurt or what he did to find out the truth. In a way, I could understand, but being morally grey can lead to harsh consequences. However, when it was revealed he was the one who disappeared, I couldn't help but be intrigued by Samuel's search for the truth that could be connected. They really played it with just enough drama and twists that led to that crazy final episode reveal. I could go on and on, but I can't say this show did not face the horror of a sophomore slump. It took what it did best in the first season and somehow made it better the second time around. In my opinion, this is one of the best teen drama TV shows to stream right now. If you haven't seen it, then you should.
More importantly, who gave this show permission to pull a Game of Thrones on me?!
