This is the superior Frozen. I said what I said. Probably like most people, when I heard this movie was being put into production, I thought: why? The commercial success of the first one was enough to last us (and to so many parents' dismay) for a lifetime. After watching it, I changed my mind. Frozen II follows the events after the first film, but now Arendelle is at peace with the gate wide open. However, Elsa begins to hear strange voices calling out to her - this leads her to wonder how she got her powers in her non-magical family. With her sister, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven in tow this time, Elsa makes the journey to find this voice to try to find the source of her powers and hope her magic is enough this time around. So back to stating my truth: this is the best Frozen hands down. I know some will disagree, but there's something about this movie that I think is better than its original. Frozen II is literally a cinematic masterpiece when it comes to CGI. If you thought the first was amazing, then your mind will be blown in this one. It's stunning and so crystal-clear that's vibrant you can't look away. Of course, I know it's not real, but it just reminds me of how far we've come in computer animation to get here. This was no small feat, and the payoff was extraordinary. For those who curse the musical aspects of the original, you will be happy to know there's very little callback to the songs. Every piece sung is new and just as good as the original. (Also, give "Show Yourself" the love it deserves, you cowards!) The dialogue and the new storyline was also refreshing. It seemed they kept the heart and spirit of the characters in this sequel, which I loved. Each current and new characters were given their own time in the spotlight, through dialogue or song, and it's clear it was given a delicate amount of care. While it seems there's great emphasis on Elsa's journey once again, there's actually plenty of moments where everyone shines on their own and entertains us all the same. It's been 6 years since the original dropped, which is a long time for both children and in the world of movies. While this sequel will not get the success of the first (though it SHOULD), Frozen II is a worthy follow-up to the mega-franchise. It's full of heart and warmth to last us until Disney decides to give us another. In the meantime, we can blast the soundtracks on repeat.
I need Bruni in my life right now!
